Following a very close vote Headway was announced as the club Charity for 2018 at the AGM.
An estimated 1 in 64 of UK residents are living with the effects of a brain injury and every 90 seconds someone in the UK is admitted to hospital with a brain injury. Headway is a national, registered charity, with an office in Aylesbury who help some of those affected. They answer approximately 10,000 calls annually, through their nurse-led helpline. They hold local support groups, give advice through an award winning website, offer training programmes and each year 1,400 families are helped by their HATS nurses at the hospital bedsides of loved ones, in the aftermath of a brain injury. Headway also give more than £200,000 to over 1000 families in financial crisis and have around 200 approved solicitors helping with legal services. All too often the brain injury sustained is permanent and the effect on the individual and their family is devastating coming without any warning.
As usual there will be lots of activites taking place throughout the year, all with the common goal of helping to raise money for this worthy charity and if you would like to make a donation then a Virgin Money Giving Page has been created to help with this here.
