Ridgeway Relay - Sunday 28 June 2026 - Bearbrook Team now complete, but always good to have reserves in case anyone drops out

With the Chiltern League season coming to an end it’s time to see if we want to enter a team for the Ridgeway Relay.

Simon is just looking for expressions of interest at this stage to see if we can get anywhere near the numbers needed to start organising a team.

Unfortunately, this year’s Ridgeway Relay clashes with the Thame 10k, which is very popular among club members with several already signed up for the race. It’s not a problem if people want to prioritise the Thame 10k, but thought it’s worth asking for anyone who would prefer running the Ridgeway trails.

Please message Simon Griffiths if you'd be interested in taking part. We need to enter a team by 30 April. It’s always a challenge getting a full team to the start line, so if you’re interested in being a ‘reserve’ then that would be useful to know.

The race pack will be updated for 2026, until then you can access last years here

Jo Hercules 10K (11K) club off road handicap race - 9am Sunday 12 July 2026

It gives me great pleasure to announce the 5th Jo Hercules 10K memorial event, an 11K cross country handicap race starting from Coombe Hill Car Park and ending at the Coombe Hill Monument.

This is a great opportunity for Bearbrook members to meet up and enjoy the wonderful Chiltern Hills scenery which Jo loved so much.

I hope as many of you as possible will be able to take part including last year's winner Dan Amsbury.</p/>

The event starts at 9:00 next to the car park where runners will gather and listen to the race briefing.

The first gentler runners will set off at 9:30am with the fastest runners setting off 40-50 minutes later. Runners will be given a starting time on the day based on their recent ability. Those with the greatest number of recent activities will receive the most accurate handicap.

Runners can set off in groups provided they announce this before the event.

The route will be the same as last year and guided practice runs can be arranged before the event. I highly recommend runners unfamilair with the route to inform your regular run leader or me. There will be a drinks station halfway along the route.

Strava route here

I've posted a new club Facebook event for this year's Jo Hercules handicap cross country run.

If anyone wishes to walk the route instead of racing on the day, I recommend a start time at 9.00am or earlier. Please let me know if you prefer the walk option.

Following the race, there will be a picnic in the sunshine for which we hope you will attend.

There will also be the traditional London Marathon draw for the Club entry. Jo's family will be around and they would love to meet you and say hello. Runners can leave bags/picnics at the starting point so they can be transported to the finish line.

Please can you register your intentions either way so that I can calculate your handicap or not. If you're unsure, please say 'Maybe' and I can set a handicap time for those as well.

Please mark yourself as "going" or "maybe" on the Facebook event

Or message Mike Lemon if you're not on Facebook.

Bearbrook 10K (our race to raise money for the club) - Sunday 2 August 2026

For 25 years, the BBRC 10k has been powered by the generosity and spirit of our members. As we celebrate this milestone on 2nd August, we’re needing members past and present to help make this our biggest and best yet!

A few hours of support - marshalling, logistics, or cheering runners home - helps us deliver the welcoming, well‑run event that defines BBRC.

If you can spare a few hours to help make the race a huge sucess, please sign up here

Athletics in the Park - 18:30 Friday 28 August 2026

It’s back by popular demand. An evening of fun athletics with friends. There’ll be running races, foam javelin, plastic shot put, relays and those 1 foot hurdles will be back. Friends and family welcome.

You can let us know you're coming by marking yourself and "going" on the Facebook event or by letting Rob Palmer know.
